It is a somber mood here at N Central. What with crazies running the state of Wisconsin, which will soon be called State of Wisconsin sponsored by TDS if the idiots have their way, but that’s neither here nor there.
We are gathered here today to mourn the passing of MySpace, or as it has become known, My_____. Yes, after being in a coma for nearly 2 years, the plug is being pulled, at least for my account.
The dust has settled and the site has long since lost any appeal for me. My friends were already starting to bail from it in late 2008, and I just kept it around more or less “just in case” scenario.” That was months…no…years ago.
I was always way more into Facebook for some reason. I signed up for Facebook well before MySpace…at least months if not a year at least. I liked how you could be more creative with MySpace with layouts, HTML, etc. However, it seemed to get out of hand, or maybe I just got highly annoyed by pages that had WAY too many animated gifs saying things like *Fuck the Man* or *Sassy Bitch* or stupid glitter…ugh. Getting a headache thinking about it. Not to mention….MySpace spawned Metro Station, which is a stain on the underwear of life.
But I stuck with it because I didn’t completely hate it at one point and I actually enjoyed chatting with friends on there, blogging, commenting on pictures and other pages. There was always some MySpace drama going on as well, and as long as I wasn’t involved in it, it was good for some entertainment.
Then things started going downhill. MySpace went corporate and it was besieged with video ads, fake friends (who were really viral advertisements), spam, you name it. Then people slowly funneled away. I stuck with it, but updates became infrequent at best.
I do have some friends from MySpace that I still want to connect with (such as Maria, Schmitty, and others) but even they appear to have long since gone without an update. Ah well….there’s always Facebook stalking…
So I basically just finished canvassing my profile for pics, comments, etc. It was quite a trip down memory lane….
So now we bid My_____ a bittersweet farewell. Aaaaammmmazing Grace…..how sweeeeet….the sound…..
