So, you may have come across discussion of something called 300 Sandwiches. (http://gawker.com/bitch-make-me-300-sandwiches-orders-beautiful-woman-1383577562) Basically it is a blog written by a woman who is making 300 sandwiches for her “man” in order to possibly procure an engagement? Something like that.
At any rate, while it is an interesting scenario, I was more interested in the food aspect. 300 different sandwiches? I want to go to there. Therefore, I’m setting out to try to replicate each sandwich myself. Whether this works out, I have a heart attack, or just give up remains to be seen, but hey, sandwiches! Onto number 1!
# 1 - Turkey and Swiss on Country White
[Ingredients]
- 2 oversized slices of country white bread
- 4 slices of turkey
- 2 oz. Dijon mustard
- 2 leaves of Bibb (WTF?) lettuce
- 1 slice Swiss cheese
[Prep]
- Toast the bread (moderate). Layer with mustard, layer lettuce on both sides of bread. Fold turkey on both sides of the bread, add cheese. Serve with tortilla chips and dill pickles.
Pretty straightforward in my estimation. BTW, I don’t know what the heck Bibb lettuce is, so I went with romaine singles. I also didn’t know country white was a type of bread, I figured it was a reference to most of the demographic of Wisconsin. HEY OOOOOOOOOOOO!
Anyhow, my sandwich didn’t appear to be as fancy as Ms. Stephanie Smith’s, but it still looked good.
The taste? Well…pretty straightforward sums it up pretty nicely. I liked the semi-toasted bread, usually I just burn the crap out of the bread because ‘MERICA. I think the romaine slices in mine may have been a bit too big because it was almost too leafy, but not enough to dissuade me. The Dijon mustard was a nice touch and the Swiss and turkey went together like the long time sandwich compatriots that they are. You can’t really beat the combo, and it had a few variants that I’m not used to. Also for the record, I used to hate dill pickles, but I’ve come around.
3.5 out of 5 Stars
